Hero by Samantha Young

What They Say:

The explosive, emotional and unforgettable new romance from the NYT bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series

Alexa Holland's father was her hero-until her shocking discovery. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who's as damaged by her father's mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa's efforts at redemption, but it's not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and all-consuming affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for, and when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he'll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again . . .

What I Say

I would like to thank Clara Diaz and the author for sending my a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and on honest review.

This is the first book of Samantha’s I have read and I can say it won’t be the last, once I started reading this I found I couldn’t put it down I just had to find out about Alexa and Cain’s story and how it work out for them.

Alexa is vulnerable after her mother’s death and then she meets Cain, her father had destroyed his life and she was desperate to help him.  This meant a clash of minds and wills between Cain and Alexa with sparks flying off every page.  Sure this is the story about a millionaire etc, but this is slightly different at Alexa’s family are millionaires to even if they won’t acknowledge her after casting her father aside because of the scandal.

Despite everything that is stacked against them, Alexa and Cain are drawn to each other and this makes for a steamy page turner.  Cain is moody and very broody from page one and Alexa is an easily likeable character and I couldn’t help routing for her from the very first page.

There are couple of other great characters in the books of Henry Lexington, Cain’s charming and roguish best friend.  Cain’s next door neighbour Effie and Alexa’s best friend Rachel, even with her ‘devil child’ I couldn’t help laughing.

The book has everything, tension, sarcasm between the main characters and a twist that I never saw coming.  The will they won’t they of Alexa and Cain’s relationship had me guessing what would happen.  A fantastic story, with lots of steamy scenes.

5 out of 5 stars
