Book Blurb/Synopsis
Book one:
Love can be such a “coulda, woulda, shoulda” song sometimes…
Lucia Mpobo-Riddell could have been a dancer like the rest of women of her family but instead she chose music. Marcus Grant could have been a doctor like the rest of his family but instead he chose music. She also could have not fallen for Marcus on her birthday but she did. And Marcus, he could have told Lucia the truth about his real reason for being in Toronto that night, but he didn’t. Now they have to deal with big reveals and consequences: Marcus almost stealing her job and being force to work on an album together. Marcus, because he couldn’t swallow his pride, leaves Toronto and goes home to London. Lucia, because she just couldn’t give up on her first amazing opportunity to produce a whole album. And to complicate the situation further, the band they’re working for is not the easiest one. Mary Gillis, Marcus’ on and off flame, still has a hold on him. Greg McMullen, Lucia’s close friend and former dance partner is back in town and has been in love with her for years. Then there’s Marcus and Lucia, in the middle of their own a professional and personal tug-of- war with each over and the rest of the world. But maybe things could still work out… All things considered, this could have been one heck of a love song!

What I say:

I was given this book to review, as this is not normally the kind of book I prefer, I found the story engaging at times although it is a little slow, I like books to grab me and keep me reading within a few chapters, unfortunately it didn't happen.  I liked the closes of Luce and her sisters.  Although I found the books confusing at times with the amount of nicknames Luce seemed to have.  Greg I didn't like at all.  Marcus and the rest seemed to be stumbling around leading nowhere.  The music bits in this book I didn't like and found myself skipping these bits.  Having said that this is the first part of a set of books that I am sure will turn out to be a good series of books.

"A teacher told me in high school that people didn't read anymore so I decided that I would make movies instead...so that didn't stick…"
I finally went back to school to study creative writing at Georges Brown College in 2010 and 2011. I started to write The Coulda Woulda Shoulda Song Series as an assignment and finished Book One in late 2011 before moving to London.
And the rest as they say is history... Almost two years later, I'm in London and wrote three novels: This Could Have Been Our Song! A coulda woulda shoulda ballad... What they say:
‘Karmen Moncrille’s name has been known throughout the world since the age of sixteen when her first book shot to the top of the bestseller’s list. Now everything she writes is an instant hit, and her legions of devoted fans eagerly await her next release. The mysterious Karmen always blamed debilitating panic attacks as the reason she avoided publicity and has become a recluse. Which is exactly what she wants the world to think. Only Karmen knows the truth behind her introverted nature. Terrified of being asked where her ideas come from, she fears being branded a raving lunatic. Now just a week before her twenty-third birthday, Karmen s world implodes. The madness that haunts her dreams spills over to her reality and she questions her sanity. Suddenly everything has changed and now the world will transform with her. Her last book will unleash the truth and alter mankind forever. Is Karmen’s ability to write a gift or a curse? She’s about to find out if her entire life is a lie. And why she was destined to write it.’

 What I say.

This is the first Ashley Fontainne book that I have read but I will certainly be reading more. All my friends know I love a book with a super natural/fantasy  element and this certainly had it, but at first you don't spot it until the book goes into more detail.

Right from the very first chapter I enjoyed this book and wanted to find out more about Karmen.  I easily associated with Karmen, especially when she did the tv interview that went drastically wrong.

This book kept you hooked from day one and as it progressed you never knew which way the book would turn, this set up the plot nicely.  The characters were totally believe able especially Karmen.

This built to a really good explosive ending, which didn't leave me frustrated as some books do.

Godspeed by February Grace

What is a heart if not the ultimate clockwork?"
Abigail’s young life was saved by the kindness of strangers: Schuyler Algernon, the man who found her collapsed on cold city streets, and Quinn Godspeed, the doctor who risked everything by breaking the law to keep her fragile heart beating.

As the truth about what she’s become and her feelings for her saviour overtake her, Abigail is forced to ask what constitutes life, living, and what dark secrets are contained within Godspeed’s past and the walls of Schuyler’s house.

What I thought

At first it took me awhile to get into this book.  I don't think it was the book as I have struggled to read any other book since.

Abigail Courage is thrown out of the only home that she as ever known when it became clear the mistress of the house doesn't  like her, she struggles with life after her fathers death a few months previous.

Abigail travels to the town of Fairever to find work, within a short time the weather changes and it becomes clear she is really ill.  She is rescued by Schuyler Algernon who takes her to his house and calls in his friend Doctor Quinn Godspeed.  It is becomes clear Quinn is no ordinary doctor, willing to try things other doctors won't try.

Through the first few chapters we see the  struggle to save Abigail's life through her eyes. Once she starts to get well again she is introduced to Quinn's other patients, who have nicknamed themselves 'The Freaks'.  It is clear Quinn has risked a lot to help each one of them.

As the book tells the stories of Penn, Jib, Lilbet and Marielle, also the back story of Quinn and Schuyler, Abigail  begins to falls in love the with dashing Dr Godspeed.

The book builds to a wonderful finale around the secrets of the house and Dr Godspeeds patients, I certainly didn't see what was coming but I hope the author pens a follow up book.
