Cover Reveal - Adamant (The Alliance Series Bk 1) by Emma L Adams

ADAMANT final front cover

Adamant (The Alliance Series #1)
By Emma L. Adams
Genre: Contemporary Fantasy
Age category: Adult
Release Date: 11 March 2015

What They Say:

On an alternative 21st-century Earth in which our world is one of many in the Multiverse, the Inter-World Alliance exists to keep the peace between the worlds, and keep the monsters out.

Ada Fletcher is twenty-one, keeps a collection of knives in her room, and is more interested in fighting than her day job as a cashier. She also risks her life on a daily basis, helping refugees from a devastating magical war on her homeworld hide on the low-magic Earth. But when she’s taken into custody by the Alliance, her unusual magic makes her a prime suspect for a supervisor’s suspicious death.

For Kay Walker, whose family founded the organization, there has never been any doubt that his future is with the Alliance – even if it means dealing with sarcastic centaurs and dangerous monsters in the dark Passages between worlds. But when his supervisor is murdered, Kay discovers that a research project might have been the reason, and faces the choice of whether to ignore his instincts or risk becoming the next target, not to mention digging into the Alliance’s history and memories he’d rather keep buried. And there’s something not quite right about the strange, fierce girl he arrested as a suspect.

The last thing Ada wants is to help the infuriating Alliance guard who arrested her, but it soon becomes clear that the Alliance knows too much about Ada’s offworld origins. More, in fact, than she knows herself. Now she has to choose between loyalty to her family, and helping the Alliance save the Earth – and the Multiverse – from a deadly enemy.

Emma AdamsAbout the Author:
Emma spent her childhood creating imaginary worlds to compensate for a disappointingly average reality, so it was probably inevitable that she ended up writing speculative fiction. She was born in Birmingham, UK, which she fled at the first opportunity to study English Literature at Lancaster University. In her three years at Lancaster, she hiked up mountains, skydived in Australia, and endured a traumatic episode involving a swarm of bees in the Costa Rican jungle. She also entertained her creative writing group and baffled her tutors by submitting strange fantasy tales featuring dragons and supernatural monsters to workshops. These included her first publication, a rather bleak dystopian piece, and a disturbing story about a homicidal duck (which she hopes will never see the light of day).

Now a reluctant graduate, Emma refuses to settle down and be normal. When not embarking on wild excursions and writing fantasy novels, she edits and proofreads novels for various publishing houses and reads an improbable number of books. Emma is currently working on the Alliance series, a multiple-universe adult fantasy featuring magic, monsters, cool gadgets and sarcasm. Her upper-YA urban fantasy Darkworld series is published by Curiosity Quills Press.

"The game is on with Pembroke’s little sister…" Lord Drew Framlington watched Miss Mary Marlow. The woman had been warned to keep away from him, but she had a little contrary in her soul. She had not been deterred. Perhaps she had a taste for bad hidden beneath her cold denials, or a liking for naughtiness in her soul – either of which appealed. "Stop pretending you do not like me…" Lord Framlington had urged Mary, "Stop running..." Her body urged her to as much as he did. Something pulled her towards him. Something unknown and all consuming… and yet how could she disobey her father and her brother...

Compounding her worries, Rhys’ arrival in her world has been welcomed with the exact horror-filled reaction she expected. Her beloved has been cast into the dungeons, and no amount of arguing with the king and queen will prove he’s her fated love.

Magical powers were supposed to be a gift, or so Rhys McEleod had always believed. Too bad the second he landed in Faedrah’s world the legacy he inherited slammed into his body like a weight. He’s got zero control and his constant visions of Faedrah fighting an evil entity aren’t helping. At least her parents made the right decision and stuck him away someplace safe. Since the day of her birth, Princess Faedrah Austiere has been defined by her place within the kingdom. As the single heir to the half-blood gypsy king and his prophesied white queen, she is fiercely protected, shuttered inside an ivory castle and well-trained in the art of war. Yet neither her obligations as future queen nor the black infestation threatening her kingdom fail to hinder the mysterious pull of the antique armoire hidden in her parents’ bedchamber. And stealing the golden key for a leap through time is the only way to confront the dark lord haunting her dreams.
One face. The image of one defiant, relentless woman has been stuck in Rhys McEleod’s head ever since he was old enough paint her luscious curves on the canvas. But the day she walks into his life off the street—sexier than hell and itching for a fight—he’s not convinced she’s the same women he’s envisioned since childhood. That is, not until he spots the golden key around her neck—an object he’d never fully shown in any of his paintings.

Now if he could just persuade his lovely muse he’s not the enemy. Unless the elusive Faedrah Austiere learns to trust him, he’ll never have her in his bed—the one place he’s convinced she belongs.

The second Faedrah Austiere walked into his life off the canvas, everything in Rhys McEleod’s world stopped making sense. Not only does her story sound like a Grimm’s fairy tale, evidently he’s been cast as the villain. If that isn’t enough, the mirror inside that old, beat up armoire at her uncle’s condo is supposedly a doorway to another world. Ever since the pathway opened, something inside him has seemed…off. If what his muse says is true, they are headed for an epic showdown, but he isn’t about to let her go. Nothing is more important than Faedrah’s protection, even if her parents refuse to accept him.

Though certain their fates are bound by more than the golden key Princess Faedrah wears around her neck, it is paramount Rhys’ true identity be kept secret. Should news of his bloodline ever reach her kingdom, their entire quest to save her people could be lost. Their only hope to prove his loyalty is to steal the map to the dark lord’s Crystal Crypt. Yet her a plan endangers her beloved more than the accusations he faces in her kingdom and, to escape evil’s grasp, she and Rhys must take a leap of faith beyond her wildest imagination.

Rhys had one job to do. One measly errand that shouldn’t have been a problem, given the nature of his powers. But when an old enemy reappears, detailing the result of his actions, Rhys is forced to make a choice between a future with Faedrah or dying before his time. Frustrated and out of options, he agrees to her suggestion they to leap forward in time to the future…even though a good chance exists his powers will be nothing but a memory in his world. Flying blind on a wing and a prayer, they prepare to fight for everything they love against a wizard of insurmountable power.

Faedrah does her best to gather their closest allies. The sides are squared in a war to control the future of both worlds. With the stakes so high, only one advantage has been cast in their favor. The sigil of utmost protection inherent in Rhys’ signature. If not enough to thwart the evil awaiting at the Austiere gates, she could find herself imprisoned in the future, while her kingdom and all those she has sworn to protect are lost to the mists of time.

The Christmas Queen by Elaine Spires

What They Say:

Her whole life through, Christmas for Eileen has always started with loads of work and preparation and ended in bitter disappointment, and involved huge amounts of energy and emotion along the way.

But this year, although she knows it will be emotional, she's determined things will be very different. This year she's going to be a Christmas Queen...

What I Say
What can I say about Elaine’s stories that I haven’t already said before?

We meet with a familiar character in Eileen, she tells about all her previous Christmas disasters. Eileen is an easily likable character and I loved her in previous books.

This is a brilliantly written Christmas story that had me both crying and laughing along, all the way through.

I love Elaine’s books and can’t wait to read more from her… if you want to read a lovely festive story then I would recommend this and any of Elaine’s books as she writes about real women with perfect lives.

I'm not even going to add the stars as this gets a definite five stars from me.

When we first meet Kyter he is travelling to his home village to bury his mum, this sets him on a path to find his father. On the path he collides with Iolanthe and his destiny.

Iolanthe is also searching for the same artefact that Kyter is looking for, neither of them is willing to give an inch in their quest.  They must decide whether to work together or against each other.  The relationship between Kyter and Iolanthe has everything, there is lust, anger, rejection and love, the sparks literally fly off the page in some parts of this book.

I love this series of books and with each new one Felicity introduces another hot hero that I can’t help but love.  The book flows really well and as with all of Felicity’s books I was unable to put it down.

I’m so glad there will be a few more to the series and all I can say is keep writing Felicity.

Cover Reveal - The Vampire of Vancouver by Liz Meldon

The Vamp of Vancouver - Liz Meldon
Title: The Vampire of Vancouver (Lovers and Liars #2)
Author: Liz Meldon
Series: Lovers and Liars
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Cover by: Humble Nation
Release Date: February 10, 2015

What They Say:

Aphrodite, goddess of love and lust, is not impressed. After giving up her penthouse suite in trendy Manhattan to go monster hunting around the world, she finds herself in a sad hotel room in Vancouver with a decidedly distracted Loki. She hadn't expected this job to be so serious, and her Norse partner isn't exactly bowing to her whims these days. What was the point in coming with him if they weren’t beneath the sheets all hours of the day? It seems like such a waste of sexual compatibility. Humph.

Meanwhile, Loki, Norse trickster, is equally unimpressed. He hadn't thought taking a beautiful partner along would make his work so difficult. Her unfocused energy grates on his nerves, and his lust for her is only surpassed by his desire for more godly power. He will complete this job, whether she likes it or not, and he’ll walk away one step closer to regaining his old abilities. Now, if only he can get his partner to focus on the task at hand, not seduction. Ridiculous woman.

Aphrodite and Loki, an unlikely team if there ever was one, find themselves in the City of Vancouver hunting vampires. The job is pretty straightforward: rescue the damsel, kill the monster. Unfortunately, even the easiest of jobs hardly ever go according to plan.

Guest Post - Three Amazing Things About You by Jill Mansell

Today I have a Guest Review by Sarah Pritchard.

What They Say:

Jill Mansell's enchanting new novel will drive readers to seize life with both hands and make the most of every minute...

Hallie has a secret. She's in love. He's perfect for her in every way, but he's seriously out of bounds. And her friends aren't going to help her because what they do know is that Hallie doesn't have long to live. Time is running out...

Flo has a dilemma. She really likes Zander. But his scary sister won't be even faintly amused if she thinks Zander and Flo are becoming friends - let alone anything more.

Tasha has a problem. Her new boyfriend is the adventurous type. And she's afraid one of his adventures will go badly wrong.

THREE AMAZING THINGS ABOUT YOU begins as Hallie goes on a journey. A donor has been found and she's about to be given new lungs. But whose?

What Sarah Says:

Three amazing things about this book....It is beautiful (inside & out), sensitively written and uplifting.  I love all Jill Mansell's books that I have read and this is definitely one of my favourites!
When I started reading this book it was such a happy start and I thought oh no it is going to end in devastation.  I kept trying to guess what was going to happen and although I kind of did it wasn't with the characters I thought or quite how I expected.  The ending wasn't quite what I expected it wasn't really as predictable as I thought which I'm glad about.

Rory and Tasha are my new favourite couple!  I loved all the characters but Rory and Tasha were my favourite and I so wish that I could be Tasha and have someone do what Rory did to meet her again after their first encounter.  I also want to write to Hallie and have her solve any problem I ever have!  I want to live in this story forever! It captured me from page 1 and my only regret is that I didn't phone in sick at work to finish it in 1 sitting....I was torn between finishing it in 1 go and not wanting it to finish at all!  It is such a heart-warming story.

Jill tackles such a delicate issue of organ donation at such a devastating time in a person’s life and does in such an amazingly sensitive and beautiful way.  It was pure escapism and helped to put life in perspective at the same time.

I cannot speak highly enough of this book and I cannot describe how amazing it made me feel, I am sad I had to finish it and will definitely read it again!  I have never read a book twice but I will this one next time I perhaps feel down or like life isn't quite going my way.  That is how good this book is it makes me want to read it over and over!

20 days in to the New Year and it is without doubt my top book of the year!

About The Author

Jill Mansell lives with her partner and children in Bristol, and writes full time. Actually that’s not true; she watches TV, eats fruit gums, admires the rugby players training in the sports field behind her house, and spends hours on the internet marvelling at how many other writers have blogs. Only when she’s completely run out of displacement activities does she write.

Jill Mansell's books have sold over ten million copies and her titles include: Making your Mind up, Fast Friends, Good at Games, Sheer Mischief and Solo, among many others.

Thanks for a fab review Sarah!

The French for Christmas by Fiona Valpy

What They Say:

A year to forget. The perfect escape. And a little Christmas magic…

Touching, uplifting, and filled with delicious French cooking, The French for Christmas is the perfect Christmas treat.

Evie used to LOVE Christmas, but this year she can’t wait for the tinsel and presents to be a distant memory.

When her best friends offer the use of their cottage in the beautiful French countryside, Evie jumps at the chance. With her soon-to-be-ex-husband, celebrity chef Will Brooke, plastered over the news with his latest ‘love interest’, leaving the country seems like the perfect plan.

Armed with her French grandmother’s tattered notebook of recipes, Evie is determined to ignore Christmas altogether and bake herself back to happiness.

And when Evie meets her next-door neighbour – the très gorgeous doctor Didier she finds a very willing taste-tester. But is it possible that he could be interested in more than just her Tarte Tatin?

With snow falling, a special Réveillon dinner and a little Christmas magic in the air, could Didier even be the one to thaw Evie’s heart? Or will a visit from the ghost of Christmas past change everything?

What I Say:

I would like to thank Bookouture for approving me to read this on NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Evie has never gotten over her break up with ex-husband Will or the loss of her child this drove Evie and Will apart.  Her heartbreak knows no bounds and should really doesn’t know how Will can put it all behind him and move on with his life.  When he his plastered all over the TV with his new cooking shows, one of her grandmother’s recipes and his latest squeeze, it is more than she can bear and the chance to escape to a friend’s place in France is just the break she needs.  I instantly felt for Evie, and wanted her to make the best of the time she has in rural France.

The way Fiona has Evie meeting with the handsome Didier made my heart go out to her.  Didier is described as a Bradley Cooper lookalike, not my cup of tea but his personality shines through.  He helps Evie when she becomes ill and they slowly become friends.  Didier also has his own baggage to deal with but together they help each other.  We also have Mathieu and Eliane, who take Evie and Didier into their hearts.

I love the way Fiona describes France and I really felt as though I could picture everything in great detail.  The story is such a perfect Christmas read, with tears, happiness and snow.  You could easily think there isn’t much to this book by my review but there is so much that I don’t want to go into too much detail and spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read this yet.

The Deal by Z Elizabeth

Title: The Deal (The Deal #1)
Author: Z. Elizabeth
Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date: December 1, 2014
Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22839743-the-deal

What They Say:
One feud.
Two families.
One secret.
What happens when you fall for the enemy?

Thanks to their fathers' feud, Nicole and Craig have been enemies since the moment they were born. But six years ago they fell in love... They just never told each other.

Motivated by their grandparents' money, they agree to a simple deal: Stay married for a year and unravel the secrets and lies surrounding their fathers. Bound together, they must figure out why the two former best friends have spent the last thirty years ignoring one another and prohibited any contact between Nicole and Craig.

Craig is more than happy to uncover their fathers' past if it means he gets Nicole for real.

Nicole wants to keep the past exactly where it is and she will fight Craig every step of the way.

With only limited time together, delving into their family history could be the mistake that will break both their hearts.

What happens when secrets and lies are revealed? Can Nicole and Craig live their Happily Ever After after waiting six long years to be together? Or will one secret be enough to break them apart, just like their fathers?

'I'm doing this for us, Nic'

*THE DEAL is suitable for 17+ due to graphic sex scenes and language*

*This is a STANDALONE novel. Book two is a companion novel.

What I Say:
I would like to thank the author for sending me a copy of this in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The books starts as Nicole and Craig are about to be married nothing usual there you would think but their families have been feuding for over 30 years.  The reason Nicole and Craig are getting married is because of their Grandparents will, written 30 years previously.  This to be is the basis for a great story, why are they feuding?  Why do they have to get married?
I’m sorry but for me the book was spoiled with the crudeness of some of the writing, some of the sex scenes are really well written but the statements Craig comes out with to Nicole are crude to say the least and if he had been my husband as he is Nicole’s, he wouldhave got a kick in the balls on more than one occasion.  This really spoiled the whole book for me.
What I did like about the book is the relationship both Craig and Nicole have with their friends having grown up with them through school and university.   I also love that Nicole and Craig secretly loved each other despite their parents trying to keep them apart.
The sub plot of why the couple had to get married and why their fathers were feuding is what kept me reading, but in the end I was a little let down as to why it all happened.  In parts I both loved and hated this book, especially when the author kept going over the feud and the will etc, I felt like screaming yes we know all that.
For me this is an acceptable debut for Z Elizabeth and I hope to see more from  her in the future.

Excerpt
I turn back to the waves, pick up my bag and grab my phone. John looks over my shoulder, wondering just what I am doing but I sit closer to him and lean in so my cheek is next to his. This feels totally weird but I am going to document this moment and remind him that I gained his trust, albeit, a little too fast, but we are now Father and Daughter-in-law and we haven’t had a picture together yet.
“Um, Nic, just what the hell are you doing?” John asks but I reply with my arm around his shoulder and my arm stretched upwards with my phone. I smile into it, catching John's expression. A mix of confusion, amusement and disbelief at what I am doing.
“Taking our first Father-in-law/Daughter-in-law photo, now smile, John!” I demand, smiling into the camera. John follows suit and I snap the image. I bring the phone so both of us can see the picture and I laugh. He certainly looks like an older version of Craig and he really is a DILF. I know for a fact when Craig and I have kids he is going to be the yummiest DILF imaginable and I cannot wait!
“Well, Papa Thomas, that is your birthday present sorted.” I giggle, locking the phone and throwing it to the bottom of my bag. John shakes his head and stares back out to the ocean.
“You know, Nic, I had you down all wrong. I thought you were a spoilt little girl who was exactly like her mother, but you are nothing like her. You're like your father; strong, determined, and loyal. I'm so lucky that in some backarse way you and Craig found each other and I'm proud to call you my Daughter-in-law.” John admits and I look to him, tears filling my eyes. It's hard to swallow but I push the lump down. I lean forward and wrap my arms around his neck, wanting a hug. John's arms wrap around my back and he laughs at my emotions, rubbing my back as I sniff the tears back.
“You have no idea how much that means, DILF.” I murmur, drawing back from him. I smile widely at him and gather up my belongings, ready to leave and dart to Kelsie's to pick up my suitcase. “I'll see you around, Papa Thomas. Don't be a stranger now we are BFF's” And with a wink I begin to walk away from him.
“What's a DILF?” He shouts after me and I let out a hearty laugh. I turn around and begin to walk backwards.
“Google it.”

About The Author

 Z. Elizabeth is a debut author who grew up in Wales, UK and wishes she knew how to speak fluent Welsh. Bore da (Good morning), Wedi Bleno (tired) and Ydw (yes) just don't cut it.

Reading has always been a part of her life since she was a young kid and writing came quickly after she discovered her love for studying English Language and writing fiction. Since graduating with a degree in BA Journalism, writing is embedded into her everyday working and personal life. At 15, she finished a full length novel and thought nothing of it until now. The Deal is loosely based upon that story and it's one that she is hugely proud of writing and re-writing and re-writing...

When she isn't slaving away at her day job, you can find her daydreaming about her book boyfriends, reading the next hot book out or binge eating with her friends, continually shocking them with the filth that flies out of her mouth.

Z. Elizabeth hopes that her characters end up on your book boyfriend/girlfriend lists and her book ends up on your favourite list, maybe even your bookshelf.
