#HIFortnight - Interview with Teresa Morgan

Today for #HIFortnight I have an interview with the lovely Teresa F. Morgan

What They Say:

Just a boy standing in front of a girl…

Actor Steve Mason has it all … gorgeous looks, the perfect starlet girlfriend hanging on his arm and his name on every Hollywood producer’s lips. That is, until it turns out the ‘perfect girl’ is actually a perfect PR stunt! Dumped and with his name plastered across every tabloid headline, Steve decides to head home to England, questioning if he’ll ever find a woman who genuinely loves him for who he is, and not just his place on the Sexiest Man Alive list.

It’s been fifteen long years since Ruby last saw her big brother – but the new LA version of Steve complete with designer wardrobe, California tan and an American accent is too much to bear – Ruby hardly recognises him and decides it’s time to get her brother back!

With Ruby’s help, Steve goes undercover as he plays the part of a regular guy who leads a regular life. And then one perfectly fine, ordinary day he meets lovely, funny, down-to-earth Lydia. But when Hollywood comes calling, will Steve be able to leave both Lydia and his little sister behind?

Interview with Teresa Morgan

Hi Teresa

Thank you for coming on Comet Babes Books for #HIFortnight.

Can you tell us about One Fine Day?
Steve Mason returns from Hollywood after 15 years to catch up with his sister, Ruby. He’s miserable because the woman he was planning on marrying has dumped him.

He’s now worried that with his A-list celebrity status he won’t find a woman who genuinely loves him. Ruby devises a plan to disguise Steve, so that he is unrecognisable as the famous Hollywood actor, in a hope to help him find true love. It worked for Clark Kent, right?

As Steve searches for his not-so-perfect woman and has a taste of normality, his relationship develops with his sister. But will he find the right woman before he has to head back to his real life in Hollywood?

Can you share with us who designs the gorgeous covers for you books?
HarperCollins cover designer, Alexandra Allden produced Plus One is a Lucky Number, however Lizzie Gardiner (a freelancer working at HarperCollins) produced my lovely book cover for One Fine Day. I’ve always wanted a tree on the front of a book cover with hearts.

Can you tell us about your writing process?
I’m probably a seats of pants type writer. I’m not very good at planning. I know by writing romance that I need to get my hero and heroine together, and I work towards that. I try to get down as much as possible without editing too much, then go back an edit after a rest. Usually I let a critique partner see it at first draft too. It’s a much more productive way of writing… if you edit as you go, it’s easy to get stuck on the first chapter and not move on. Then the book never gets finished.

How old were you when you started writing?
I was very late to writing. I started in 2006 (aged 33) writing fanfiction. I was pregnant with my second son, and my first would take an afternoon nap, so I would relax by writing. In 2009, I decided to write professionally, joining The Writers’ Bureau. In 2010 I started writing my first novel, which became Plus One is a Lucky Number. (Published August 2013).

What items are on your desk/where you write?
My desk is in my cosy lounge. I needed a writing space when I moved house, and this was the only place a desk could go. It doesn’t matter how much I try to unclutter it, my desk always gets untidy. It has all sorts on it from the keyboard, mouse, screen (I work at a PC), printer, stationery, note pads… I have my diary open next to me too. My (Ikea) desk is connected to a bookshelf, so I have a dictionary and thesaurus to hand, plus writing books. But my desk is where I leave my ‘idiot notes’ i.e. my to-do list to remind me of what I need to remember to do day to day.

Do you have a routine for your writing? ie time of day.
I try not to write evenings like I used to. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are my writing days and I try to treat these as office hours. I break up my sessions with housework etc. I set the oven timer for an hour to make me get up from my desk. If I wrote for the full six hours I’d be crippled lol! This is what I try to stick to… it doesn’t always work though – real life does like to get in the way.

Any tips for writers who are just starting out?
Just write it really – you can’t edit a blank page! – and don’t be afraid to put it out there. If you can find a critique partner, all the better!

Can you share a sneak peek at what you're working on at the moment?
It really is in first draft stage, so won’t say too much but I’m working on book 3. The hero and heroine are neighbours and they have a love/hate relationship. When Maddy’s house is on fire, Harry reluctantly comes to Maddy’s rescue... Forced together, they both learn to love again.

What's the worst advice you have ever received?
I don’t think I’ve ever received bad advice when it’s come to writing…. And if I have, I haven’t taken any notice of it. Lol! I certainly can’t remember it.

If one of your books was made into a film/TV series, who would you like as the leading lady/man?
If One Fine Day was made into a film, I’d like Bradley Cooper to play Steve Mason, because I was picturing him when writing this book. When I first started writing One Fine Day, Bradley Cooper was a new-ish face to Hollywood. He was my Steve Mason.

Thank you for answering my questions today.

About The Author

I live in sunny Weston-super-Mare, trying to hold onto my Surrey accent where I was born and bred.

For years I persevered with boring jobs, until my two boys joined my nest. In an attempt to find something to work around them, and to ensure I never endured full-time boredom again, I found writing.

I am at my happiest baking cakes, putting proper home cooked dinners on the table (whether the kids eat them or not), reading a good romance, or creating a touch of escapism with heroes readers will fall in love with.

Mum to two boys by day, romance writer by night. I’m at my happiest baking cakes, putting proper home cooked dinners on the table (whether the kids eat them or not), reading a good romance, or creating a touch of escapism with heroes readers will fall in love with.

Skating at Somerset House by Nikki Moore

What They Say:

The first short story in the fun & flirty #LoveLondon series from exciting new chick lit author Nikki Moore!

There’s nothing Holly Winterlake loves more than Christmas and skating, so working as an Ice Marshall at London's Somerset House is a dream come true.

Noel Summerford hates the festive season and is a disaster on the ice, so taking his godson to Somerset House is his idea of the nightmare before Christmas!

Things are bound to get interesting when these two collide…

With a forty foot Christmas tree, an assortment of well-meaning friends and relatives, and a mad chocolate Labrador, will this festive season be one to remember … or forget?

What I Say:

I would like to thank Harper Impulse for approving me to read this on NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The gorgeous first story of the #LoveLondon series is set at the beautiful Somerset House and Christmas, I make no apologies for adding this review in the middle of #HIFortnight.

Holly and Noel are polar opposites when it comes to Christmas and taking risks. Holly loves both and Noel hates them, when they meet at Somerset House they seem to be drawn to each other.

I love the sweet Christmas story in the first of the #LoveLondon series and Nikki Moore creates characters the are both easily likeable and believable. It's fun sexy short read and really festive in every way. It has everything you could want in a festive story even a party.

A wonderful start to the series. Reviews of the other books coming soon.

#HIFortnight - Guest Post by Nikki Moore

Today for #HIFortnight, I am happy to bring to you a guest post by the lovely Nikki Moore

Writing the #LoveLondon Series

Hi Jo - thanks so much for your review and asking me to come and chat about the #LoveLondon series...

I’ve been more than honest on blogs and in interviews about how much work this series has been... a real labour of love. I call it this because although the challenge of ensuring continuity, timeline accuracy, and clear characterisation has at times made me want to sit rocking quietly in a corner somewhere, it has also been the most exciting, fun and satisfying writing project I have ever worked on. I’ve also been amazingly lucky with the overwhelmingly positive response readers and bloggers have had to the series. So, I’m not complaining J However, I’ve definitely learned a lot and wanted to share this learning with other writers or aspiring authors, which is why I wrote a post about the subject for the Women Writers, Women(s) Books website at http://t.co/yjnrD202SS

The #LoveLondon series was born out of me pitching my second full-length novel Picnics in Hyde Park (a romance wholly set in London)  to my lovely editor Charlotte, and her brilliant idea to write a number of London based short romances leading up to the novel. The idea has evolved a number of times, but we eventually settled on a linked series that would start at Christmas - Skating at Somerset House - with a story to follow roughly once a month to capture key dates or events, with one character in each short related to / friends with one of the main characters, Matt or Zoe, from Picnics. And so New Year at The Ritz, Valentine’s on Primrose Hill, Cocktails in Chelsea and Strawberries at Wimbledon were created to follow my Christmas baby J

Strawberries at Wimbledon, the fifth and last short story, is out on 14 May and is about Adam and Rayne (university sweethearts) who meet again at Wimbledon after nearly five years apart. But can you ever go back and recapture that first love? It’s available on pre-order at various e-tailers including Amazon now via http://www.amazon.co.uk/Strawberries-Wimbledon-Short-Story-London-ebook/dp/B00P5V4TAG

Picnics in Hyde Park is due out in June, in time for a (hopefully nice) summer and while I’m sad this means the series is almost over, I’m equally happy that I’ve had a chance to tell these stories. I quite regularly admit that all my characters are just friends who live in my head J and I think that’s part of why I’ve had such a blast.

I’m always happy to answer questions or have a natter, so if any readers or bloggers want to get in touch, come and find me on

Pre-Release Blitz - 7 Years Bad Sex by Nicky Wells

It’s 4 May 2015—hooray! That means a fabulous new romantic comedy by Nicky Wells is available for PRE-ORDER from Amazon NOW!

Grab your copy here:

What They Say:

7 Years Bad Sex

One wedding. One curse?  Disaster ever after…

A seven-years-bad-sex curse? Surely not! Yet something went wrong when rock singer Casey and drummer Alex got married on that beautiful yacht anchored off St Tropez in the south of France. Something went badly wrong. For even on their wedding night, the young couple discovers a complete and somewhat surprising inability to make love. Muddling through their honeymoon with a string of thin excuses for their predicament, the lovers defer finding a solution (and panicking) until the return to their home in London. After all, they married for life and to make rock music, not for the love of sex. Right?

But when they resume life as normal in London, all hell breaks loose. Increasingly frantic in their quest for release, the unhappy newlyweds embark on a string of hilarious and occasionally harmful antics that drives them, their band, and an assortment of random strangers to the brink of despair. But it ain’t over ‘til it’s over or, in this case… it ain’t over ‘til the newlyweds sing.

Says Nicky: This book came to me at a fancy dinner way back when in November 2013. It was a fairly drunken affair, and speeches were being made. We were all toasting each other and having fun. Then someone shouted at me. “You didn’t look at me. Argh! That means 7 Years Bad Sex.”

I don’t actually believe in curses, nor am I particularly superstitious. But at that precise moment, a story popped in my head in its entirety. The potential for entertainment with comic mishaps and other antics as a young couple tries to breathe life into their flagging romance was simply too delicious to ignore. And that’s how this book was born…

So what are you waiting for? Go and grab your copy, and the book will magically appear on your Kindle on the official release day of 14 May—not long to go. Here’s that link again:

How do I plan my Harper Impulse books?

1hi

With the Angels Among Us novellas (Falling, Forbidden and Forever, each 30,000 words in length) I pitched to the fabulous Charlotte Ledger, at the Romantic Novelists’ Association conference in 2013. At that stage I had only written two of the three novellas, but by the time I signed the contract the final novella, Forever, was completed. However, there was a little more to the story and when Harper Impulse decided to release the three novellas as Falling: Angels Among Us The Complete Series, I was able to add a roller-coaster ending that takes the reader on past ‘The End’. It’s a fitting conclusion to a story that will make many people wonder ‘what if?’ It took three years of research to write a part of this story, which is ultimately a love story, but explores the possibility of changing one’s fate and how angels might operate if they walk here among us. What if we start to deviate from fate’s path – is it possible that those around us can receive messages to correct little anomalies to stop us going way off course?

2hi

Having written that series a conversation with my editor, Charlotte, inspired my next novel with them which is due out on 16 July 2015 and is available to pre-order now. A Cottage in the Country is another love story, but the setting is the lovely cottage my husband and I are currently renovating in Lydbrook, on the edge of the Forest of Dean. We moved into the cottage in December 2013, when severe flooding hit the area and while it is a work of fiction, some of the actual events relating to the work on the cottage are true. We really did spend our first night there, on the 19 December, with a seized central heating boiler that wouldn’t work, no furniture and a bed that wasn’t delivered until a day later! As the cottage had been empty for over a year because the previous owner had died, it wasn’t the best start to a very ‘un-Christmassy’ first Christmas there. Christmas day we had no cooker and no kitchen after deliveries failed to get through. Christmas lunch was eaten in paint-covered jeans and consisted of crisps and a sandwich! We stopped work for the briefest break, then my husband started up a jackhammer to take out part of an interior wall and I was back to sanding and painting walls.

All of the characters are fictional, of course, but it was the perfect setting for Maddie Brooks as she began her new life.

  3hi

  A Cottage in the Country

What do you do when your best friend has an affair with the man to whom you've been married for twenty-five years? The father of your two children and the person you trusted with your heart? Not to mention the best years of your life ...

Well, you pack your bags, grab half of the equity in the house you've both lovingly restored and run away to an idyllic little cottage in the country.

I suppose not having the cottage surveyed was the first mistake—buying with your heart, and not your head, isn't the wisest move. The second was moving in six days before Christmas, the day the heavens decided to open and the rain just kept on coming.

Maddie Brooks grits her teeth and hires the highly recommended ‘man who can’, ex-soldier, Lewis Hart. As he rips out the very shabby and decidedly not-so-chic kitchen, reality sets in. Not only is he the most abrupt person she's ever met, but the man is a Neanderthal!

As the flood waters rise, and the village is cut off, everything that could possibly go wrong, does. How bad can it get, Maddie asks herself? Well, that was before she found herself living with no central heating and no kitchen, and the man who can, as an unexpected house guest.

Hitting the big five-o two days before Christmas is the final straw. No presents, family, or friends—just Lewis Hart, who can’t leave because the flood has now cut off his exit. How on earth is she going to get through this and put her life back together?

Can Maddie Brooks become that ‘fifty-and-fabulous’ woman of her dreams? What defines YOU? Wife, mother, grandmother, colleague – or is there another person buried deep within, who is struggling to be heard?

4hi

Being with Harper Impulse has allowed me to grow as an author and mix genres. I love the fact that they are so open and receptive to ideas. Having an editor who understands your preferred style and the way your mind works is a great bonus. I wear my Harper Impulse badge with great pride!

Runaway Summer - Polwenna Bay 1 by Ruth Saberton

What They Say

Lose your heart to Cornwall’s Polwenna Bay. Watch fishing boats dance in the harbour, hear the waves breaking on the beach and explore the pretty village where new friends wait and there’s love to be found, warmer than the summer sunshine...

Running Away…

Since leaving Polwenna Bay for the bright lights of London, actress Summer Penhalligan has tried her hardest to never look back; Jake, her childhood sweetheart, let her down terribly and the beautiful Cornish village holds nothing but painful memories. It’s only when a volatile relationship threatens to destroy all she holds dear that Summer finds herself returning to the place she knows so well.

Jake Tremaine has travelled the world but reluctantly finds himself drawn back to Polwenna Bay to run the family marina and take care of his unruly siblings. While Jake knows his attention should be on the rescuing the business, determined Ella, daughter of a wealthy hotelier, is set on working her way into his affections and beneath his sheets. The last thing Ella will tolerate is the reappearance of a rival…

As the holiday season approaches and seaside life gathers pace, Jake suspects that Summer is keeping a huge secret from him. But Summer is not the only person in the village with something to hide. Is she just an echo of Jake’s past or are there far more important matters at stake?

What I Say

I would like to thank author Ruth Saberton for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

When I first dived into the world of Polwenna Bay it is following Summer as she flees from London back to her home town, a town she left as a sixteen year old to find fame and fortune.

The book is written in the third person and is from the POV of four of the main characters Summer, Jake, Mo and Jules. There are lots of other characters in this story as there are seven in Jake and Mo's family and Summer also has two brothers.  To start with this can be a little confusing but Ruth takes her time to describe each character and I felt by the end of the book that I was beginning to know them all.

In the past there had been secrets that were keeping Summer and Jake from being happy, also Summer was hiding things now and despite everything they couldn't stay away from each other.  Mo has made decisions in the past and now that has affected them all and although deep down she knows she is wrong is driven by anger towards Summer for hurting Jake.  Jules is the local vicar and new to the area but she soon finds friends among the villagers of Polwenna Bay especially Jake's brother Danny and his son Morgan.

I love the descriptions of Polwenna Bay and would love to be able to visit.  I fell Polwenna Bay is going to turn into a great series of books and am really looking forward to book 2 which I believe is Mo's story.

About The Author

Ruth Saberton always knew she wanted to be a writer. From an early age she was busy filling note books with stories and rather than hero worshipping Wham and Duran Duran (which ages her!) Ruth's heroes were Jilly Cooper and Jackie Collins. Several attempts at bodice rippers later, Ruth turned her attention to romance and now focuses on writing romantic comedies. Her debut novel, 'Katy Carter Wants a Hero' was championed by Richard and Judy and nominated for the RNA's Romantic Comedy of the Year Award as well as being described by Heat Magazine as, 'the heir apparent to Bridget Jones'. Ruth writes under her own name, but also has several pen names which include Jessica Fox, Georgie Carter, Holly Cavendish and Lucy Hepburn. Her boyfriend says he has many women all rolled into one!

Ruth is published by Orion, Pan Macmillan, Harper Collins and Notting Hill Press. Although she loves the UK, Ruth now lives in the Caribbean where she continues to write romances, teen novels and planning that bodice ripper! Her latest book, Escape for the Summer, is set in Cornwall but she is currently writing one set on Grand Cayman.

Ruth loves to to talk to her readers.

#HIFortnight Interview with Angela Campbell

Today for #HIFortnight I have the pleasure of bringing you an interview with Angela Campbell

Hi Angela

Thank you for coming on Comet Babes Books for #HIFortnight.

Thank you for allowing me J

Can you tell us about your Psychic Detectives Series?
There are three books in the series so far, and they follow a group of private psychic investigators, who fall into mysteries and love in extraordinary, often times hilarious circumstances. Pets are a recurring theme because, well, I love animals and can’t imagine a good story without at least one in it. The first book is ‘On the Scent,’ which is about a sexy pet psychic who falls in love with a pretty nurse after she hires him to protect her millionaire cat and dog, and the second book is ‘Something Wicked,’ about a psychic medium who helps the police solve a serial killing in one of the most haunted cities in America. The third book features the agency’s adorkable non-psychic cyber security specialist attempting to solve a paranormal mystery on her own while petsitting the animals from the first book. Chaos and hilarity ensues. It’s awesome.

Can you share with us who designs the gorgeous covers for you books?
The covers are designed by my fabulous publisher, Harper Impulse.

What inspired you to take up writing?
I used to write stories as far back as elementary school. I’d see a movie I liked and then rewrite my own version, which I would then act out with stuffed animals. Actually, sometimes I still do that.

Are any of your characters based on people you know?
The animal characters are all based on real animals I know. Costello is based on my best friend’s rescue dog, a mutt who loves to hump everything he sees and yet who is the most unusual and cutest dog ever. Charlie is also based on my best friend’s dog, a blind rescue dog with the sweetest demeanor, and Abbott is based on a mixture of cats I’ve known and owned. I am actually allergic to dogs, but I own a very spoiled kitty and do a lot of volunteer work at my local animal shelter. Every animal I’ve met has a unique personality, and also, they can’t sue me, so it’s easy to include them in my books. It’s also why I donate a portion of my royalties to animal rescue.

Do you have a support network for your writing?
I have wonderful critique partners — Pamela Hearon, Abby Niles and Cynthia D’alba — who write such diverse things and are all amazingly talented at what they do. They offer tremendous support and help with my writing. I also have a fabulous editor at Harper Impulse, Charlotte Ledger, who doesn’t get enough credit. In addition to all of them, I’ve used beta readers and now have actual readers who have discovered my series who have sent me terrific feedback and support through emails. The other Harper Impulse authors are also incredible about supporting each others’ books. So I suppose I have a large support network! I’m very blessed.

What items are on your desk/where you write?
I write in so many different locations, but my actual desk has photos of my favorite male celebrities pinned up — Henry Cavill, Norman Reedus, Ian Somerhalder, Nathan Fillion, Jensen Ackles — as well as pictures of my cat, my friend’s dogs, Scooby Doo toys, and Superman, Dean Winchester, Fox Mulder and Daryl Dixon Pop Vinyl Figures. Basically I have the desk of either a 16-year-old girl or boy, depending on how you look at it.

Do you have a routine for your writing? ie time of day.
I work full-time and have other obligations, so I basically write whenever I can find time, which usually tends to be really late at night when I should be sleeping.

Any tips for writers who are just starting out?
Rejection is a way of life for writers, so I’d simply encourage you to be persistent and don’t give up if writing is truly your dream. No one ever succeeded by giving up. And whether you’re a bestselling author or just starting out, there’s always something to learn in this craft. There’s always room for improvement.

What's the best/worst thing about social media?
The best thing: The chance to meet other people you’d never be able to meet otherwise. Plus, I like to pretend I have friends on other continents and in cool places who would let me visit them if I ever won the lottery. The worst thing: The trolls, or people who embody negativity, criticism and judgment because they think it’s funny or cool. It’s not.

Have you ever heard a strange/different story that you thought would be great in a book?
Yes, and I used it! I was thinking up ideas for a book when I saw a headline that read “Italian heiress leaves fortune to stray cat” (here’s the link). I had seen similar headlines where people left ridiculous amounts of money to their pets, and it got my mind churning with the idea for this book. What if a woman left $10 million to her cat and dog, which puts them and the nurse in charge of them, in danger? Of course, they’d need a sexy bodyguard, and—wait for it—wouldn’t it be funny if he were psychic and could hear the animals’ thoughts? Too far-fetched? Whatever. I have a weird sense of humor. I decided to run with it and make it believable. That’s how “On the Scent” was conceived.

Thank you for answering my questions today.
