Escape for the Summer by Ruth Saberton

What They Say:

Betrayed and broken-hearted, redundancy is one shock too many for Andi. Suddenly single and in debt, a working holiday in the Cornish seaside town of Rock appears the perfect solution. Determined never to trust again, will a chance meeting with a stranger change her mind?

Disillusioned with useless boyfriends, Angel is set on finding a man who will keep her in style. Heading to Rock, summer playground of the rich and the royals, seems an inspired move until a case of mistaken identity threatens a romance that has started to mean more than she expected...

Actress Gemma is no stranger to diets and disappointments. When the future of her career hangs in the balance, she prays moving to Rock solves her problems. With a new reality TV show being filmed in the idyllic seaside town, surely she can avoid pasties and ice creams for long enough to win a role?

Arriving in beautiful Cornwall, all three girls are hoping for a holiday season to remember. But will this be for the right reasons? Or, as emotions run higher than the tide, will the summer escape turn their lives upside down?

What I Say:

I would like to thank Ruth Saberton for sending me a copy is this, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The story follows sisters Andi and Angel along with friend Gemma, I loved all 3 characters from page one, even Angel who I would normally hate but underneath her materialistic exteria she is a lovely honest person.

At the beginning of the book all 3 girls have bad days, Andi has all her money taken from her bank account, loses her job and catches her boyfriend cheating in her with a neighbour, life couldn't get any worse for Andi until she finds it is Tom her boyfriend that has taken her money for a car and as she had shared the same PIN number with him there is nothing she can do.

Angel is working at her job in a beauty salon when client Mrs Yuri comes in, everyone in the salon are ordered not to mention Mrs Yuri's mole, but Angel can't help but notice that it looks sore and mentions it.  Therefore earning Mrs Yuri's wrath and losing her job.

Gemma is hoping to be an actress but things haven't been going well, she has put on weight and is embarrassed at a photo shoot.  She finds out the famous footballer Cal is shooting a reality TV programme in Rock, she has a madcap idea to go along and get a part in the show.  Angel and Andi go along with her for a fresh start.

I loved all 3 main male characters, Jonty, Cal and Laurence.  Jonty I always felt was hiding something from Andi but could quite grasp what.  Cal I really felt sorry for, thrust into the spotlight only to spoil it.  Laurence I always knew he was hiding something and sort of guested what.

Ruth grabs your interest in each character and I really wanted to follow their story and find out what happened to them.  Rock and Padstow I would really love to visit.  I was kept interested in a totally different way from other books I have read.

Escape for the Summer is a perfect summer read, it has everything a lovely place in Cornwall, multiplule millionaires, hunky men, suntanned ladies who are easily likeable and that little bit of what if...

Go out and buy a perfect books that enjoys a wonderful English Summer.

5 out of 5 stars

About The Author

Although I was born in London I’m now lucky enough to live in Grand Cayman, a beautiful island in the Caribbean. I am here for two years with my partner, Christian, and we are loving it.  The sea is bathwater warm, the sand really is like icing sugar and the weather is wonderful.  I am writing like crazy and I also teach at a lovely school on island, as they say here.

All my life I’ve wanted to be a writer and as a child I filled endless notebooks with stories about ponies and forced my poor family to read them! When I was 14 I discovered Jilly Cooper and from the on my career path was set - I was going to write big fat block busters! I filled two arch folders with my historical bodice ripper (now hidden in my office, so cliched it makes me blush) before going on to write several shorter contemporary novels. It was at this time that I began my impressive collection of rejection letters. All authors have them...

I have a literary agent, Eve White (www.evewhite.co.uk) and am lucky enough to write for Little Black Dress, Avon, Pan Macmillan and Orion and Harper Collins. I am also published by the brilliant Notting Hill Press.  In 2011 I was a runner up in the Romantic Novelists Association’s “Romantic Comedy Novel” of the year award. That was such an exciting experience!

When I’m not writing for I like to snorkel, meet my friends at Sunset House for a drink or hanging out with my partner, eating pizza or going out to sea on our boat. We also have lots of lovely restaurants here in Georgetown so I am never short of a place to meet someone for a drink or a meal.

I also love to talk to my readers so pop over to my Facebook author page or my Twitter @ruthsaberton or email me
at ruthsabertonpr@nottinghillpress.co.uk/

My ultimate aim is to be able to write full time so watch this space! I think it may be very soon...
